Taekwondo (Ages 4-Adult)

The ATA teaches Songahm Taekwondo, a style specifically developed over 20 years' time by Eternal Grand Master H.U. Lee. Songahm Taekwondo focuses on personal development of the mind and body. Classes utilize forms and self-defense training to help the student develop confidence, strength, focus, flexibility, and balance. Students will be encouraged to incorporate the YMCA core values, respect, responsibility, honesty and caring, not only during training, but also outside of the dojang. This is an ongoing progressive program offering classes for all levels. Classes are taught by Katrina Nimmo, 3rd degree black belt, with 16 years of experience under Sr. Master Moberly, Lexington Ky. Classes are taught in partnership with Frankfort Martial Arts an accredited ATA School and will be offered in 8 week sessions in the DowntownYMCA upstairs gym. Youth classes meet twice a week and adult classes meet once a week.

The personal safety learned in our Kidz'n Power program combined with the life skills taught will give your child an advantage in school and everyday life. It is our goal to make the children in our community safe. Classes are offered in eight week sessions and meet in the Prevention Park YMCA fitness room.
